Coal-based Activated Carbon Used as electrodes for double-layer capacitors

Activated carbon is currently the main electrode material for commercialized double-layer capacitors. In order to increase the volumetric capacity of activated carbon electrodes and make the activated carbon powder or fibers in close contact as possible to improve their conductivity, solid activated carbon has been developed. Solid activated carbon is a composite material of activated carbon and charcoal, which is made by mixing high specific surface area powdered activated carbon with phenolic resin and thermal decomposition resin, molding, and high-temperature calcination.
