Determination of particle size for coal based activated carbon
The particle size distribution is determined by using a set of sieves with gradually increasing mesh size installed on the vibrating screen from top to bottom. After shaking, the sample mass retained on each sieve layer is weighed and calculated as a percentage of the original sample mass, in order to obtain the particle size distribution. The data obtained through particle size distribution can be used to calculate the average particle size diameter, effective size, and uniformity coefficient. The average diameter affects the pressure drop and adsorption rate of activated carbon in the packed bed, and the effective size and uniformity coefficient are commonly used in urban water treatment.
